(more than 7 days old)9PM NFL: Chargers Vs. Cardinals *NFL POY
Through five games, Harbaugh’s identity is starting to take form on this Chargers team that is now 3-2 on the season. They are running the football 30.6 times per game (8th most in the NFL) & 34 times per game on the road. If anything this Chargers team is running the football too much, throwing it just 25.4 times per game (32nd in NFL) despite having Herbert back there. Tonight, this run-heavy approach will bode quite well for the Chargers as they face a Cardinals defense that has surrendered 4.7 yards per carry (22nd) and has seen opposing teams run the football a whopping 33 times per game against them (3rd most). The Chargers will be able to control this game on the ground and when they do air it out they will be doing so against a Cardinals secondary that has struggled immensely ranking 31st in completion % allowed and 30th in yards per attempt allowed. On the other side, the Cardinals have been very proficient on the ground but the same cannot be said about their passing game. This is a problem as this Chargers defense is extremely stout against the run ranking 8th in yards per carry allowed & 6th in rushing yards per game allowed. While their secondary is allowing a high completion % they have surrendered just 9.1 yards per completion (3rd best in the NFL). This Cardinals offense has thrown the ball just 28.3 times per game (27th in the NFL) and just 25 times per game at home. Expect the Chargers to control the clock and the game with their running game as they force the Cardinals to abandon their game-plan, leaving them in a terrible position.
8:15PM NFL: Ravens Vs. Bucs
As the Ravens and the Bucs get set to face-off, both of these teams have seen some very high scores so far this season combining for an over-under record of 9-3 favoring the over. Tonight, we should see plenty of scoring from each party as they continue this trend. The Ravens have had one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL for the last 4-5 years now, however this season there is a whole new element to it with Henry in the backfield. The Ravens rank 1st in yards per game, 1st in yards per play, 1st in yards per carry, 3rd in yards per pass attempt, and have posted 29.5 PPG thus far. They face a Bucs defense that has not been very good against the run allowing 4.7 yards per carry (24th in the NFL). This weakness has been largely covered up as teams have only ran the football 24 times per game against the Bucs, but tonight will be much different as the Ravens are running the football 35 times per game. The Bucs have surrendered 23.5 PPG despite playing some lackluster offenses specifically through the last four weeks. On the other side Baltimore’s defense is struggling this season. They rank 31st in pass yards allowed per game, 26th in yards per attempt allowed, and have surrendered 24.8 PPG. Tonight they face a Bucs offense that has thrived and to the surprise of many, has done most of its damage through the air. The Bucs rank 4th in yards per play, 4th in completion %, and 3rd in QBR. They have scored 29.7 PPG. The Ravens offense ranks 1st in DVOA and the Bucs rank 7th, expect a big time offensive performance tonight.
