We may not all have the same bankroll or wager the same amounts, but we share the same goal: to profit from sports betting. My primary concern as a punter is protecting my bankroll. To do this effectively, I operate with a total bankroll of 300 units. This means that when I place a 1-unit bet, it represents just 0.33% of my bankroll, and a 10-unit bet is only 3.33%. This structured approach allows me to manage risk, stay in the game, and capitalize on profitable opportunities over the long haul.

In terms of bet selection, my strategy is primarily focused on straight bets, with occasional parlays where I identify a clear edge. You’ll also see me post Same Game Parlays (SGPs) or bet builders, particularly when the European soccer season kicks off, as this is where I generate most of my soccer profits. For other sports like basketball, football, volleyball, tennis, and baseball, I stick mostly to straight bets. When I spot an opportunity, I capitalize on it with ladder bets, as you’ve likely noticed in my recent baseball plays.

A little background about myself. I’ve been around hockey my entire life, from playing at high levels and on the same teams and against as current NHLers such as Cole Caufield, Jack Hughes, Oliver Wahlstrom, Spencer Knight, and many others. I know the game and players inside and out and what strategies teams tend to run. I have gotten back into the hockey world in an administrative role and use my knowledge to my advantage.

I started gambling on the NHL during the 2020 season in the COVID bubble. I had immense success off the bat. The longer you follow something, you begin to notice trends. With betting, the sides, totals, and props all have trends. Along with noticing the trends of the lines, I like to watch team trends and player trends.

In my experience handicapping, where the most success has come is in player props, straight bets and parlays. Anyone can throw together some parlay of McDavid point and Jack Hughes Point, it isn’t rocket science. What sets my strategies apart is finding a generous line for a player that capitalizes on opportunities and looking for unique bet with a favorable line.

With sides and totals, there are obvious bets that (on the face) make sense and there are smart bets. I look at lineups and match-ups that are favorable to one side or the other. I find an edge and take advantage of it. Factoring in how teams play at home and on the road is another important aspect of determining my picks. Analytics have become an important part of every major sport, and the same is true with gambling. My knowledge and experience with the game paired with analytics will foster success this season.

I will typically choose 3-4 sides and totals on a busy night and 1-2 player props per game. The volume will be consistent throughout the season. Player props typically have nice prices for the bettor and when we hit those, in turn, generates a night gain on the night.
