8:20PM NFL: Lions Vs. Texans POY
While the Lions have seen an over-under record of 4-4 this season through eight games, their offense has had no hand in that trend as they have gone off for 32.2 PPG, leading the NFL. The Lions rank 4th in offensive DVOA and have found success both on the ground (6th in rushing yards per game, 7th in yards per carry) and through the air (1st in completion %, 4th in yards per attempt). Through their last three games the Lions are throwing up an absurd 35.7 PPG. Through their last five games, the Lions have scored at least 24+ points in all five, at least 31+ in four of the five, and at least 42+ in three of the five games. Tonight, they face a Texans defense that has only faced two teams that rank within the top 14 in offensive DVOA. On the other side, the Lions have mainly seen their 4-4 split over-under record due to their defense “holding” opponents to 18.5 but that has had a lot to do with their opponents. The Lions rank just 22nd in yards per game allowed & 24th in yards per play allowed. They have surrendered 4.8 yards per carry (27th) and have seen their opponents average 7.5 yards per pass attempt through their last three games. The Lions have seen two turnovers per game this season with a decent chunk of them coming in the red-zone while having very little to do with this Lions defense and more to do with poor offensive execution on the other side. Tonight they face a competent offense in the Texans that will certainly protect the football much better. Expect the Lions to do the bulk of the lifting towards this total as we see this thing shattered early on in an offensive slugfest.
